The drink is so good the squirrels cannot stop. Drunken rodent croquet on the lawn, grateful dead blasting from quite small speakers, mounted on slightly larger pickup trucks…
Drink Up and Go Home (squirrel)
You sit there a-crying, crying in your beer
You think you got troubles, my friend listen here
Don't tell me your troubles, I've got enough of my own
Be thankful you're living, drink up and go home
(did I mention David Grisman is my ultimate favourite mandolin player of all time? Well, I should have)
I hate poplar trees. They grow quick, and are usually planted in new housing subdivisions because of this trait. They rot half way up the trunk, then they fall over in a wind ‘ne’er seen before from twixt the direction of never bin blowin’.
They crush houses, mimes, cars, even Aspens I figure (do I need to explain that joke btw? Keep reading it and maybe google ‘poplar’ and see what it is also called). I have enjoyed that joke for many years, another massive success in the dad joke column.
Maybe hate is a strong word. Not sure if you can actually hate a tree to be honest. Maybe a hanging tree, but then the tree had no part in the hanging, only a strong arm and shaded view. Maybe you can hate the Hunger Games song or the movie or even the book.
And for those old enough to know better, there is good old Marty Robbins and his version of the Hanging tree….I had this on a ‘45….which used those things nobody what they are anymore…
Here is Marty, get out your dancing shoes…I know life was hard and all that shit, but this sure sounds like it was slower and less complicated when this record was recorded..am I wrong?
Of course, another great of Marty’s tunes…El Paso…out through the backdoor of Rosa’s I ran….my love is stronger than my fear of death…a deep burning pain in my s-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-ii-i-i-i-i-i-de… (You can google Marty’s version, but well here is Bobby et al..)
Neat Shit of The Week (NSoTW)
Here is a cool statement that may come as a shock to some, and boring if not irrelevant to others…..Climate change is powering the fight against climate change…
As sea temperatures rise, the coastline around Greenland is becoming more accessible to mining operations. It's easier to get heavy equipment in & minerals out when it's not ice-locked 400 days a year.
Greenland has been seen in this space before…here is another shot from the way way up (Friendly Giant anyone??)..20 bucks to someone who can see the Green….
Taking advantage of the newly accessible island, a bunch of billionaires (including Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Michael Bloomberg) will be going on a treasure hunt in search of rare earth minerals like cobalt and nickel. That's the stuff required for electric vehicles and batteries.
While nickel is pretty common, cobalt is not. At the moment, some 70% of the rare earth metal comes from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and much of that is mined by children in awful conditions.
They've all backed the startup KoBold Metals, which has sent a team of 30 people to Greenland to look for the minerals. While any noises the company makes about altruistic aims are probably hogwash, it would be a lovely irony if rising sea temperatures helped fight climate change.
I unabashedly stole some of this article from Tim Denning…awesome guy to follow and subscribe if it is your jam…
Jerry Garcia’s Tiger Guitar
In my continuing love of guitars, this is a very special one. It was the last one Jerry played live in 1995. It was a custom build by Doug Irwin, in 1979. His main guitar, Lightning Bolt was in the shop and Rosebud, his backup was having technical issues. Tiger weighed 13.5 lbs, that’s feckin heavy in metric terms.
Jim Irsay (owner of the Indianapolis Colts) owns it currently after he bought it in 2002 for $850k….a steal of a deal, or at least a stealie of a deal if I do say so.
A Book I am Reading
I am reading “Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order” by Ray Dalio. It is a good read and is explaining why we are where we are and why the world is doing what it is doing. The more I learn about many different things, the more I realize everything is in a cycle…the length is really the only differences between events. Some are shorter cycles, some long…same with the stock market, kids, businesses, people in general. Amazing really.
I just ran across this video that is a synopsis of the book, in Mr Dalio’s words:
I shared what I learned in my book, Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order, and my hope is that this animation gives people an easy way to understand the key ideas from the book in a simple and entertaining way. In the first 18 minutes, you’ll get the gist of what drives the “Big Cycle” of rise and decline of nations through time and where we now are in that cycle. If you give me 20 minutes more to watch the whole thing, and I will show you how the big cycle worked across the last 500 years of history—and what the current world leading power, the United States, needs to do to remain strong. I hope you find it valuable and look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Here is the video and it explains what is happening in the world and why this is not new and it is really only because we haven’t lived long enough to see it all that we see it as all “new”.
Enjoy:
Crypto
It is not an exciting market at the moment…there are very exciting things happening, but I am not going to get into them here mainly due to the sheer amount of backstory I would need to lay down beforehand and I am afraid most would be off in snoreland and ‘who gives a fuck’ territory…
There is really no bad time to buy Bitcoin. Now is good, even tomorrow is good. Next week is fine too. If you want to buy some bitcoin, or if you are interested now that the price is down, and getting in ahead of everyone who will want to get on the train when prices are over 50, 60, 100k…I would suggest BullBitcoin. You can set up scheduled purchases, as well as a single order.
Leaving it Here
Everything, except the immediate right and present now is a construct in your mind…everything in the past and the future are all images you have created with your own mind.
None of the past or the future “exists” in any location other than your mind.
You have control over what that looks like and how you react.
Blue side up amigos.
